FAQ

Questions, answered.

Does the Sentinel use cameras or record audio?

No. Sentinel and Sentinel Plus have no cameras and do not record audio. The acoustic sensor analyzes sound patterns on the device, like a gunshot, breaking glass or a spoken call for help, without recording conversations. That's why they can be installed in restrooms, locker rooms, patient rooms and residences where video isn't appropriate.

How much area does one Sentinel cover?

For smoke and vape detection, a Sentinel is designed to cover its immediate area, roughly 500–600 sq ft. Larger rooms may need more than one unit. We confirm placement during a site survey.

Will cooking, steam or hairspray set it off?

The Sentinel reads particulates, VOCs and humidity together to recognize the pattern of smoking and vaping, and you control the alert thresholds. Heavy cooking smoke or wildfire smoke can occasionally trigger alerts, so we don't recommend installing units in kitchens.

What happens if someone unplugs or tampers with it?

The dashboard shows exactly when a device stopped reporting, and you can turn on an offline alert so you're notified right away. Tamper-resistant enclosures are also available for high-risk locations.

What does it need to connect and power?

Wi-Fi (802.11 b/g/n) and Bluetooth LE. Sentinel Plus also offers optional LTE-M / NB-IoT cellular. Units are powered by 5 V USB, and Sentinel Plus offers an optional battery backup.

How are alerts delivered?

By text message, email and the web dashboard. Sentinel Plus also supports API webhooks and integrations with VMS/PSIM, access control, mass notification and building-management systems.

Who decides the alert levels?

You do. We set up and adjust alert thresholds in the platform with you, and your own environmental health and safety team decides the levels your facility needs.

Can schools use grant funding?

Often, yes. Many school-safety and student mental-health programs can fund safety technology. See our funding page, and we'll help you put together equipment lists and project descriptions.

How do I buy?

Directly from OMNI or through an authorized OMNI reseller. Request a demo and we'll recommend the right mix and connect you with the best path for your organization.
